ABSTRACT
The article discusses the teaching of the significance of the Emancipation Day, or Juneteenth. The author pays attention to historical data from 19 June 1865, when after the end of the U.S. Civil War, Union Brigadier General Gordon Granger officially announced to the slaves in Texas that they were free by reading General Orders No. 3. The author focuses on the history of the celebration of the holiday in the course of time, for example during the World War II.
